Language for Justice (LFJ) is a grassroots counter-colonial communication initiative by and for interpreters, translators, and language advocates that centers marginalized and underrepresented communities. They uphold language as a bridge, instead of a barrier.

I helped them with the Spanish subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing (SDH) of a feature documentary on the social and environmental impact of mining called “All We Have is Us.” I also revised and edited the English SDH subtitles.

Correspondents of the World is a platform that aims to bring people closer together through storytelling.

I worked with them to provide Spanish translations of texts related to the environment, migration, education, gender issues, liberation, and COVID-19.

Translation as advocacy.

LGBTQ+ immigrants face heightened levels of physical violence, harassment, and isolation in ICE detention, and Migrant Support Collective centers their voices and needs in their program design, ensuring their work is inclusive of as many people as possible.

I worked with MSC translating into Spanish participant-facing material for their Art as Advocacy program: instructional documents, feedback forms, etc. And I currently handle the translation of their monthly newsletter as well.
